Those who follow us on Twitter may feel we're being redundant by saying to check product labels and review MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheets) for the products. But we cannot stress it enough. Here I explain why.
Chemicals are designed to kill. Poison, weaken the immune system, and eventually death occurs. But not before you are treated with more chemicals in the form of pharmaceuticals that treat the symptoms, not the cause, and creating more problems. Sounds like a conspiracy, doesn't it?
We've said it before and now I will repeat it. Chlorine, seen as a "safe" chemical today, was used in WWI as a poisonous gas. In high concentration it is deadly. So today it is sold as an additive in bleach and as a pool cleaner, and it's also added to drinking water, in lesser concentrations. Diluted poison still causes harm. Poison is poison. It will still make you sick and could lead to cancer, asthma, and other such illness.
Another "safe" chemical is flouride. Flouride was used as rat poison in the early 1900's. This rat poison is in our toothpaste, mouthwash, and water supply. Those who suffer from mouth diseases, including cavities and forms of gingivitis, are suffering not because they don't use enough Flouride but because they use it at all. The salivary gland beneath our tongues absorbs chemicals right into our bloodstream. I'm not saying such diseases didn't exist before Flouride use, just that it is more common since the introduction of flouride.
I bring this up because there are companies saying they are Green despite the fact they are using chemicals seen as "safe". Such as yellow #5, which is known to cause sterility. In males it also drops the sperm count. Some companies say they use food coloring just to color the products, but it is the only use of chemicals in such products. There are natural ways to get the colors desired. For thousands of years natural dyes found in animal excretions and vegetation was used. There is no reason why a company needs to use food coloring.
Now, there are organizations out there who set out to set the standard for what is considered Natural, Organic, and Green. The problem is, each organization (all of which hold national or international accredability) don't agree on everything. There is no set standard on Green.
Natural does not always equate Organic or Green. For example, Poison Ivy is natural. But it is poisonous. Touch it to your skin and a rash develops. Burn it and breathe the air and you will suffer from lung and throat swelling. So not everything natural is necessarily healthy or Green, and does not belong in cleaning products.
To me personally, and the policy of Reds Janitorial Services, if a product contains just one iota of a chemical it is not Green. Any products that claim Green but admit to only 99% certified natural ingredients, even if the other 1% is only food coloring, we will not consider such products Green. We advise you do the same and not use such products. There is no such thing as a "safe" chemical. Despite any and all possible benefits, chemicals do only one thing. And that is to make you ill.
You may not feel ill, you may say you've used chemicals for the past 40yrs and feel fine. Look at the inside of your body, including mental health. How is your memory? Do you require glasses or contacts? Do you have implants, dentures, root-canals, etc? Do you need to use the bathroom 30min after a meal? All of this is affected by the chemicals in your daily life.
Before using any Green product, we highly advise you read the labels and review the MSDS sheets. Be on the lookout for companies taking advantage of the Green movement by "Green-washing" their products. One iota of a chemical, the product is a chemical.
Green cleaning is supposed to benefit you and the planet by cleaning without chemicals, which in turn will make you and the planet healthier. There is absolutely no sense in utilizing a product that contains any chemicals if you seek a healthier life and Green cleaning.
For the sake of your health, and that of your family, please pay attention to the labels and avoid chemicals. Don't fall victim to "Green-washing".
